Hong Kong August 21st, 2019 – The first FWD Mellow Yellow Music Festival successfully took place in Hong Kong on July 5, 2019, attracting more than 1,100 people who enjoyed a wide range of both established and up-and-coming local performers on two stages.
Organised by leading independent Hong Kong music promoter The Underground and part of SummerFest 2019, a major summer program at Central Harbourfront Event Space co-organized with Central Venue Management, the festival was staged to showcase laid-back and relaxing music including folk, acoustic and light jazz, suitable for the whole family.
It featured 12 bands ranging from jazz to acoustic to Brit pop. They included renowned jazz singer Brigitte Mitchell, Ewan Ho & The Movement, Another Kitchen, R.O.O.T., Mark Tai, CircleGuitar and 12.8. On the busking stage were acoustic performances from Dixie Lynne, Jennachord, Charlie Chan & Watergold, Banyan Bay Ensemble, Gryphon Music, Hunting Unicorns and SPAM.
For FWD Mellow Yellow Music Festival The Underground formed partnerships with two charities, The Nesbitt Centre and ImpactHK, to empower adults with learning disabilities through education and social enterprise, as well as transform the lives of homeless people in Hong Kong. There were games and activities for visitors to participate in during the festival, with ImpactHK displaying their kindness mats and information on future events.
“The bands and musicians sounded great, raising the profile of independent music in Hong Kong,” said Chris B, founder and director of The Underground HK. “We were also delighted to be able to focus attention on two very worthy charities, The Nesbitt Centre and ImpactHK. And we were very lucky with the weather!”
The organisers gratefully acknowledge the support of FWD, their F&B partner The Flying Pan, marquee partners: Volcom & Island Wake, The Spirit Haüs and thank all musicians, volunteers and visitors for an incredibly fun day.
