海洋 by Soler

Guess who’s back? After many years, the legendary duo from Macau, Soler, has recently started to release songs again. Their latest song, 海洋, even has a really well-made MV, which I believe you will love, no matter if you have heard of the song before or not. Soler has been one of the most popular duos in Hong Kong and Macau ever since their debut over 20 years ago. They have not only performed in Macau, but also on many stages in Hong Kong and even in China. Despite not releasing new songs consistently for quite a long time, their Spotify page still has more than 16k monthly listeners, showing how popular they remain. Although their heat might have slowed down throughout the years, their re-release of 海洋 might mark a fresh start for the duo.

海洋 is one of the more popular songs by Soler, and the MV can surely bring back memories for many of their fans. Looking at the lyrics, the song seems to be talking about a story of the band. The lyrics are about how they wander freely across the vast ocean, with the ocean feeling like a comfortable home for the duo. The soothing music gives the song a comfortable and pleasing feel, which matches the lyrics beautifully. I believe that if listeners want to fully experience the song, they should find a day with nice weather, then stroll along the seaside, enjoy the views, the freedom, and the chilly cool breeze. This is why the ocean is so pretty, and this is why Soler belongs to the ocean.

Since this is a re-release, the newly made MV plays an important role. The MV shows a journey of Soler walking through the seaside, interwoven with clips of them performing. It has been a long time since the duo performed in front of a big crowd, but they have been getting more active lately, even appearing in an Alipay advertisement. The re-release might be a hint that, after wandering around the ocean for many years, the brothers have reunited to continue their musical journey in Macau. If so, the music video acts as both a recap of their career so far and a message to their fans saying “we’re back”.
