三位Guitars & Panties為:Yan Yan, Chris B和 Shirley
It was FUN!
C:Wondergarl(神奇膠)吧,他們的音樂十分有趣搞笑!
It’s just for fun!
Y:Smashing Pumpkins!
S:Red Hot Chili Peppers,

Three members of Guitars & Panties were present: Yan Yan, Chris B & Shirley
Q:How did you start your musical journey?
Yan Yan: My sister influenced me when I was studying in Form 1. I had a chance to listen to combination CD of now. Since that time, music became a part of my life, especially rock music.
Chris B: My mum loves Elvis and The Beatles. She played those tracks at home all the time which made me fall in love with music. I first joined a band when I was 12, at that time my bandmates were all older than me. I started to perform when I was 17.
Shirley: When I was young, around 3 or 4, I started to play piano. I began to pay attention to other musical instruments during secondary school. Bass was the second instrument I learnt apart from the piano at that time. I am open to different genres of music.
Q: Why you decide to form a girl band?
C: There wasn’t any other girl band at that time, so we wanted to be the very first to see if this concept worked for us. A girl band is capable of shooting some sexier posters too. It also looks great when it’s just girls playing on the stage.
Q: Why ‘Guitars and Panties’?
C: The reason is simple. It sounds like an all girl band. I guess no one will think there’s any guys in a band called ‘Guitars and Panties’.
Q: Which show is the most unforgettable one?
C: Should be the first show at Venue. It was packed (most of them were boys haha!). I think it’s probably because we made a very attractive and cool poster for the show. Everyone were excited, boys were crazy. That show was great! It was FUN!
Q: Which local bands would you like to collaborate with?
S: AudioTraffic, I like their arrangements!
C: Wondergarl! Their music is very funny and interesting! Senseless is also a good choice!
Y: I would like to collaborate with any bands with 4 guys, and then we can pair up with them! But all four of them must be cool and handsome!
Q: Why did the band separate?
S: There were various factors. For me I had to study abroad.
C: I was pregnant. I couldn’t hold my guitar and perform with my big belly.
Q: What did you do after the separation?
Y: I played in other bands like Hard Candy, Chochukmo etc…
C: We were still good friends and kept in touch even though we were not making music together anymore. Of course I’ve been playing with other bands like Thinking Out Loud after the separation.
S: I studied abroad for music production. I formed bands with others whilst overseas.
Q: Did the band start with any goals?
C: None. It was just for fun!
Q: What are the differences in forming a band in the old days and now?
Y: Bands nowadays are no longer all about making music. They have to multi-task like handling images and visual effects etc. These elements are important to catch people’s eyeballs.
S: The development of technology is so fast. It is very common to produce one song with various tracks. More underlying tracks are possible to be played with the aid of computer during live performance to enrich the sound.
C: I think…forming a band now has much more work to do than in the old days (laughs).
Q: Any advice for the bands from young generations & youngsters who want to start a new band?
Y: Don’t say ‘I don’t have time’. You can always squeeze some time to do things you really enjoy.
C: Really need to practice more.
S: Remember to equip yourself with other skills besides forming a band.
Q: Tell me about bands you would like to see play a Reunion.
Y: Smashing Pumpkins! With the original line up!
C: There are too many bands…I can’t think of a particular one…
S: Red Hot Chili Peppers with the original guitarist, not the one now…
Guitars & Panties will be performing at Underground Reunion on 20th September 2014.
