Our eighth event in The Underground’s 21st Anniversary Series! It felt amazing to be back at the Fringe Club, surrounded by great music and an eager crowd. Huge thanks to the four bands who rocked the stage with their original songs. The Red Garage deserves special mention for going all out with their Halloween costumes — and that gorilla bassist absolutely earned the “Best Band Member Costume” prize!
Shoutout to soundman Moses!
Big appreciation to 劉海亮 and Hazel-Rah for their reviews. Thanks also to Raven and Kiwi for running the door smoothly, and to Yan Yan for designing another fantastic poster. Last but not least, loud applause to Gdaudio and Shure for sponsoring the prizes!

Made up of well-known members of the local indie scene spanning at least 20 years – all of whom, I believe, have graced various Clockenflap stages in different bands – I had high expectations of this band before they even played.
I was not disappointed. The band entertained the audience with a great set of, for want of a better description from my limited vocabulary, indie rock. The opening couple of songs, with their guitar hooks, somehow reminded me of The Cure (i.e. clean riffs in the background), followed by tracks infused with different styles from different decades.
Night Ships is a band that is technically competent, with members who play with great rapport and are very comfortable on stage. If you enjoy rock music at its barest, without too many effects, pretense, or restraint, this band is surely for you.

But this is what LIVE about! So what!施春一聲「OK LET’S GO!」

Turbulent – 「Fing

This will be an even shorter review than my usual – brilliant! The band comprised a few teenagers, but their level of skill is way beyond what I would expect. Musically they describe themselves as “psychedelic rock” and psychedelic rock (or blues rock) the set was, in the finest tradition of Jimi Hendrix/the “Anything Goes” decade, with generous dose of distortion/wah and a big, filling rhythm section (wish the bass could be louder though). The entire set was pure music, with no lyrics in the songs at all – Blues is not an easy genre to play, you may be able to pull it off technically, but good blues is in the expression/feel and these guys totally nailed it (going back to the “wow, are they really only 19” part earlier).
Yeah, so if you’re into psychedelic/blues rock, definitely check them out!
